Sketch of osprey fishing

The dramatic action of an osprey fishing has many dynamic aspects. This drawing captures the moment when the bird lifts its prey clear of the water. He tries to turn the fish into a 'torpedo' position.
For my purpose, that moment is perfect, since the fish is still lateral.
When I was asked to design a pendant and pin brooch of an osprey, this sketch showed what is distinctive about an osprey hunting: but also contained the essential feature for a jewel: it could logically be made flat at the back! Translating from drawing to precious metal demanded maintenance of the asymmetry of the wings.
