Ospreys at nest

Oil on Canvas

Duncan M. Watt

Painting of three ospreys on nest at Loch Garten with another flying in.

Great excitement occurs in an Osprey's eyrie when the fisher (the male) is seen far off, approaching with a meal. The female calls "kee-kee-kee-kee", as if to chide his tardiness, and the chicks join in the chorus. Typically, he will land in a nearby tree to consume the fish's head, before delivering the bulk of the fish to his family.
I made new osprey drawings at Loch Garten in preparation for a talk I was invited to give at an RSPB Volunteers Conference at Steps Theatre in Dundee in 1992.
