The core of this work is a medium-sized stump within the beech wood around which Gail has gathered and composed other elements in an architectural manner, to form a shrine. The downward sweep of deer antlers is a protective gesture over the low altar. A delicately woven pentagram is suspended from the upward aspirational sweep of twisted branch. Around the whole, a low horseshoe-shaped wall creates an entrance inviting the spectator to participate in some pagan ritual or meditation . . . the small candles add that touch of human participation. |
