Cheetah

Acinonyx jubatus      Duma

Observing the observer, via an Optolyth 80x30 telescope, these portraits are of the same animal at about 50 yards distance. The Cheetah is always scanning the landscape for its prey, hoping to avoid being observed by its predators.

I was able to observe this family group for quite an extended period - almost 15 minutes - until the arrival of other, less prudent, vehicles.
Blocked-in shaded areas help to put the animals in the context of shelter from the mid-day African sun. The Cheetahs are the most diurnal of the African big cats.
