Lion sketches

Panthera leo Simba

The fixed stare of the lioness while stalking, her head held lower than her mighty shoulders, her long whiskers bristling with intent, all signify her focus on the task.

Just after dawn in Amboseli NP, we came across a pride of lions replete after their nocturnal feast of a Zebra. We anticipated no further action, but the Silver-backed Jackal and the Spotted Hyaena may find an opportunity to steal a morsel.
In fact, a Hyaena did make off with the Zebra's head.
