The symbiosis between the lives of mammals and birds, especially oxpeckers, creates compositions with a charming contrast and scale.

The skull of a Cape Buffalo is the ultimate symbol of inevitable death. This drawing was made at Amboseli in the bright sunshine and heat-haze of an African noon. I observed it closely, though at great range, through a 30 x 80 telescope.
The 'direct' or live drawing technique keeps the eye on the subject, not on the paper. This makes possible to use a telescope to draw distant subjects.
